SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) -- Bryan Savage passed for four touchdowns and 291 yards as Hofstra rallied in the second half to defeat Rhode Island 37-24 on Saturday.
Hofstra (3-0, 1-0 CAA) scored 27 points in the third quarter after trailing 24-7 at halftime.
The Pride found the end zone on the opening possession of the second half when Kareem Huggins ran the ball in from five yards out. He finished with 147 yards on 28 carries as both teams combined for 851 yards.
On Hofstra's next possession, Savage threw a 33-yard scoring pass to Ottis Lewis to make the score 24-20 Rams.
A 76-yard punt return by the Pride's Anthony Nelson resulted in Savage's second scoring pass of the quarter, giving Hofstra its first lead, 27-24, since the first quarter.
A 21-yard run by Savage extended Hofstra's lead to 34-24. The Pride closed the scoring when Rob Zarrilli converted a 45-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
Trailing 7-3 in the first quarter, the Rams (0-4, 0-2 CAA) scored the game's next 21 points. Jerell Jones rushed in from nine yards out to make it 10-7 URI.
A 44-yard interception return by Rhode Island's Ki'Ameer Johnson extended the lead to 17-7.
Joe Casey rushed for 132 yards on 22 carries while quarterback Derek Cassidy was 9-for-24 passing and 172 yards.
