YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) -- Kevin Smith ran for three touchdowns and Youngstown State rushed for 304 yards in a 49-21 victory over Missouri State on Saturday.
Smith totaled 102 yards rushing on 15 carries and Tom Zetts completed 13-of-23 passes for 169 yards and another score for the Penguins (4-1, 1-0 Gateway Conference). Smith scored on runs of 11, 1 and 3 yards, with Zetts tossing a 3-yard score to Ben Lane.
Ferlando Williams added two more touchdowns on runs of 5 and 3 yards while rushing for 48 yards on eight carries.
Cody Kirby ran for one score and passed for another for Missouri State (3-2, 0-1). Kirby completed 19-of-31 passes for 183 yards with an interception.
The Penguins outscored the Bears 35-7 in the middle two quarters, with each team scoring seven points in both the first and fourth periods.
Five Youngstown State players rushed for at least 34 yards and two others had 16 apiece.
The Penguins defense had three sacks and forced two turnovers.
