NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Running back Daryl Jones threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jamar Johnson on the first play of the second overtime Saturday as Norfolk State defeated South Carolina State 20-13.

South Carolina State (2-3, 1-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) had a chance to tie the score again and force a third overtime, moving to the Norfolk State 14 with the help of an illegal substitution penalty. But two runs lost five yards, and two Cleveland McCoy passes fell incomplete.

Neither team scored in the first overtime. A.J. Harris of Norfolk State (4-1, 3-0) blocked a South Carolina State field goal, and the Spartans' Justin Castellat, who had field goals of 42 and 31 yards in the first quarter, was wide right from 32 yards.

William Ford scored on a 10-yard run in the second quarter for South Carolina State, and Casey Hansen had a 1-yard touchdown run for Norfolk State later in the period.

South Carolina State finished with 344 yards total offense, including 200 on the ground, while Norfolk State managed just 246 yards.
