YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) -- Ferlando Williams rushed for two touchdowns, including the game-winner, as Youngstown State nipped Southern Utah 23-22 on Saturday.
Williams' 3-yarder with 5:26 remaining capped a 9-play, 65-yard drive that featured a 29-yard run by Kevin Smith and five consecutive carries by Jabari Scott.
The three backs combined for 174 yards rushing for Youngstown State (5-2), with Smith leading the way with 64 yards on nine carries.
Southern Utah (0-7) took advantage of great field possession to take a fourth quarter lead over the Penguins.
Derrick Brown deflected a punt by Youngstown State's Ben Nowicki, giving the Thunderbirds the ball on the Penguins' 29-yard line. Wes Marshall's 24-yard pass to Jeremy Edwards put Southern Utah ahead 22-16 with 8:52 to play.
Youngstown State regained the lead on Williams' run, and the Thunderbirds came back with a 12-play, 41-yard drive that ended on a missed 34-yard field goal attempt with 1:03 left.
Johnny Sanchez led the Thunderbirds with 102 yards rushing on 25 carries.
