AMHERST, Mass. (AP) -- Liam Coen completed 13 of 17 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game late in the first half with a bruised knee to lead Massachusetts to a 24-7 win over Northeastern on Saturday.
With a 15-yard touchdown pass to Rasheed Rancher and a 25-yard scoring pass to J.J. Moore, both in the first quarter, Coen tied the school record for career touchdown passes with 51. Todd Bankhead threw 51 from 1998 to '99.
The Minutemen (6-1, 4-0 Colonial) jumped to a 21-0 lead on Matt Lawrence's 1-yard run with 9:32 left in the first half.
Northeastern (1-6, 0-4) scored on Anthony Orio's 1-yard run with 7:01 to play in the half. The touchdown was set up by Orio's 29-yard pass to Chris Plum.
Chris Koepplin gave UMass a 24-7 halftime lead with a 37-yard field goal with 3:02 to play in the half.
Lawrence finished with 110 yards rushing while Moore had seven catches for 97 yards. Backup UMass quarterback Scott Woodward was 7-of-11 for 57 yards.
