WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) -- This visit to Michie Stadium was a little bit different for Tulsa coach Todd Graham, but the emotions were still there.

Paul Smith threw for 390 yards and Tulsa totaled 622 yards of total offense, helping the Golden Hurricane beat Army 49-39 on Saturday.

Last year, Graham came to West Point as the head coach of a winless Rice team days after freshman defensive back Dale Lloyd died. The Owls beat Army and went on to finish 7-6, earning the school's first bowl berth in 45 years.

"It was a little bit emotional coming back here because we were 0-4 last year, we just had lost Dale and I don't think in my 20 years of coaching I've ever been lower than I was then," Graham said. "Coming back here this time was a little bit different experience for me to savor the history, and the setting is just absolutely phenomenal."

The two teams poured on the offense Saturday. The 622 yards by Tulsa (8-3) tied a 34-year-old Michie Stadium record for offensive yards surrendered by Army.

The Black Knights (3-8) lost their fifth consecutive game and second in a row at home, despite totaling a season-high 491 yards of offense.

Jeremy Trimble caught 11 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns, setting two Army career records -- 15 TDs and 2,325 yards receiving. Trimble also tied the single-season TD reception record at seven, and with one game remaining, he'll have a chance to make the mark his own.

"Right now, we just lost the game and that's my mind-set," Trimble said. "Records are great. Ten years from now I'll look back and say, 'Wow, I did some good things.' But right now, it's hard after a loss to think about those things."

Sophomore quarterback Carson Williams had his best game as a Black Knight, going 26-of-38 for 328 yards with three touchdowns and a late interception. Williams completed his first 12 passes, not throwing an incompletion until 70 seconds remained in the first half.

"I played like I should play," Williams said. "Every other game that I play it's kind of a disappointment and you say I wish I could have done this, I could've got that back. Not that I'm pleased with the outcome of the game, but with my overall performance, I'd say yes."

Army set season highs in points, total offense, rushing and passing yards and first downs. The Black Knights scored their most points since a 62-7 over VMI last year.

But it wasn't enough to beat Tulsa, which entered the game averaging almost 537 yards, second-most in the nation. The Golden Hurricane won their fourth consecutive game and have won six of their last eight.

Tulsa racked up points and yards quickly. The Golden Hurricane scored five of its seven touchdowns on drives of 2 minutes, 5 seconds or less. Three of those drives went for more than 75 yards.

Tarrion Adams ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns, Trae Johnson caught nine passes for 119 yards and a score, and Brennan Marion caught two long passes for 110 yards, one of them a touchdown. Tulsa totaled 500 yards in the first three quarters.

Army, which rallied twice this season from home deficits to post victories, made it 42-39 on Tony Dace's 9-yard TD burst and Williams' two-point conversion pass to Justin Larson with 7:06 remaining.

But Tulsa overcame a lost fumble with 3:04 left by holding Army on downs, then scored on Smith's 1-yard run with 1:33 remaining to seal the win.

"We felt like we had to move the ball and get things rolling," Army coach Stan Brock said. "I had only one timeout left and we had to throw the ball. They weren't going to give us anything rushing. The mood was we were going to take it down and score to win the game."

Army led 24-14 when Corey Anderson ran 24 yards on a reverse for a touchdown with 7:26 remaining in the first half. But Tulsa scored twice before halftime to take a 28-24 lead.

Army led 31-28 after scoring on the first drive after halftime, but the Golden Hurricane took the lead for good later in the third quarter when Adams ran 7 yards for a touchdown and 35-31 lead.

"We battled to the end," Army linebacker Brian Chmura said. "We battled the whole game. The offense put up points and helped us a lot today. They helped us more than we helped them."
