GREELEY, Colo. (AP) -- Tremayne Kirkland caught two touchdown passes as Portland State broke a five-game losing streak to end the season with a 31-21 win Saturday over Northern Colorado.
The Vikings (3-8, 3-5 Big Sky) led 24-21 before sealing the win with a time-consuming 80-yard drive in the fourth quarter. With 4:54 to go, Ronnie Fa'avae ran 14 yards for a touchdown, and Northern Colorado (1-11, 1-7) couldn't score again.
Portland State took a 17-0 lead with 9:49 to go in the second half before Northern Colorado capitalized on the Vikings' mistakes to score two touchdowns.
On the Vikings' next possession, Stephen Michon intercepted Drew Hubel and returned it 26 yards. Breazeale led Northern Colorado on a 41-yard drive capped with a 2-yard pass to David Woods to pull to 17-14 before halftime.
Jimmy Collins took over at quarterback in the third after Hubel's fourth interception and had a 17-yard toss to Kirkland for a touchdown, putting Portland State ahead 24-14.
Breazeale scored on a five-yard run to get the Bears within 24-21 with 10:37 left.
Hubel was 21 for 38 for 248 passing yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. Collins was 10 for 15 for 86 yards and one touchdown, with 26 rushing yards.
Breazeale was 17 for 30 for 163 passing yards and two touchdowns, plus one TD on the ground.
