BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Patrick Hall and Phillip Peoples each rushed for two touchdowns to lead Gardner-Webb to a 31-12 victory over Tusculum on Saturday.
Hall led the Bulldogs (1-1) with 98 yards rushing on 12 attempts, scoring on runs of 2 and 54 yards. Peoples added 61 yards and two 1-yard touchdown runs on 15 attempts as Gardner-Webb rushed for 249 yards as a team.
Tusculum (1-1) took a 6-0 first-quarter lead on Gareth Rowlands' two field goals but Hall scored his first touchdown and Peoples added a score with 38 seconds left in the second quarter to give a the Bulldogs a 14-9 halftime advantage.
Gardner-Webb iced the game when Peoples and Hall scored third-quarter touchdowns for a 28-9 lead.
