DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Ben Behrendt kicked a game-winning 23-yard field goal with 42 seconds left and Davidson overcame a 21-point deficit to beat Jacksonville 38-35 on Saturday.
Linebacker Tyler Lemons forced a Jacksonville fumble, and Brandon Sykes recovered for the Wildcats (2-1, 1-0 Pioneer Football League) at the Dolphins' 30-yard line. Behrendt followed with game-winning field goal.
Jacksonville (2-3, 1-1) tried a Hail Mary at the end of the game, but Davidson's Brandon Gile knocked down the pass to seal victory for the Wildcats.
Ryan Alexander passed for 230 yards and three touchdowns, while Chad Barnes had 97 yards rushing on 18 carries for Davidson. Myles Potter caught three passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. Lemons finished with 10 tackles and one sack.
Rudell Small led Jacksonville with 33 carries for 217 yards and three touchdowns, while Josh McGregor threw for 147 yards and two passing scores.
