FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Lance Kriesien threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns as Northern Arizona beat Sacramento State 42-10 Saturday night for its fourth consecutive victory.

The Lumberjacks (4-1, 2-0 Big Sky) are off to their best start since 2003 when they went 9-4 and won the conference championship.

The victory also was the 59th at Northern Arizona for Jerome Souers, making him the school's all-time winningest football coach in his 11th year. Souers passed Max Spilsbury, who won 58 games with the Lumberjacks from 1956-64.

Sacramento State (3-3, 1-2) was led by Duncan White, who was 15-of-31 for 253 yards including a 53-yard touchdown pass to Tony Washington but was intercepted twice.

Kriesien, who was 14-of-26, threw a 29-yard scoring pass to Curt Sweeney in the second quarter and found freshman tight end Brian Riley for a 56-yard TD in the third quarter.

Northern Arizona held the Hornets to 21 rushing yards on 41 carries.

After Washington's TD catch less than three minutes into the game, the Lumberjacks closed to 7-5 on Robbie Dehaze's 37-yard field goal and a safety late in the first quarter.

Sweeney's TD catch put Northern Arizona ahead to stay and Cyrus Igono's fumble recovery in the end zone 1:18 before halftime made it 18-7.

Deonte Williams added a 3-yard scoring run in the third quarter before Riley's TD catch. Kriesien had a 4-yard TD run in the fourth quarter and Dehaze added a 48-yard field goal with 8:54 to play.

Sacramento State's other points came on Juan Gamboa's 44-yard field goal early in the third quarter.
