PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- Trae Rutland scored two touchdowns Saturday night as Jackson State beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 21-10, keeping the Golden Lions winless this season.
Jackson State (2-4, 1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) opened the scoring 5 1/2 minutes in with a 5-yard run by Rutland, which capped an eight-play 61-yard drive.
UAPB (0-6, 0-2) answered with a 46-yard Carlos Reyes field goal with 2:36 left in the first.
With 4:26 left in the half, Dom Johnson intercepted a Jonathan Moore pass and ran it 60 yards for a touchdown.
Rutland, the Jackson State quarterback, capped a 32-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run with 11:29 to play in the third quarter. That was plenty enough for victory, though early in the fourth, UAPB added a score when Martell Mallett ran in from a yard out after the Golden Lions drove 64 yards in 12 plays.
Rutland finished with 11 completions on 19 attempts for 106 yards. He rushed 13 times for 25 yards.
UAPB's Jonathan Moore completed 17 of 13 attempts for 142 yards. He threw three interceptions.
Both teams had trouble moving the ball. Jackson Statte had 215 yards total offense and UAPB had 173.
