ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Will Ford rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown and Oliver Young caught seven passes for 101 yards and a score to help South Carolina State beat Norfolk State 24-23 on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (5-2, 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) broke a 10-10 tie on Ford's 12-yard rushing score in the second quarter. The Spartans (2-4, 1-2) answered with 13 straight points that included a 29-yard field goal by Justin Castellat in the second, along with Dennis Brown's 1-yard touchdown run and Castellat's 21-yard field in the third quarter.
But Travil Jamison's 1-yard scoring run with 33 seconds left in the third gave South Carolina State a 24-23 lead, and the Bulldogs held Norfolk State scoreless the rest of the way.
Malcolm Long completed 15 of 27 passes for 189 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown pass to Young in the first quarter for South Carolina State.
Marshall McFadden finished with 15 tackles and two sacks, while Markee Hamlin had 14 tackles.
