SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Ramses Barden broke one of Jerry Rice's NCAA records and Jonathan Dally tied his own school record with six touchdown passes as Cal Poly rolled to a 69-41 victory over Southern Utah Saturday.
Barden caught a touchdown pass in a Mustang game for the 27th time, breaking Rice's record of 26 set while he played at Mississippi Valley State from 1981-84. With his 12 catches for 217 yards, Barden now has 181 grabs.
Dally completed 22 of 26 passes for 410 yards and six touchdowns, equaling the mark he set against Weber State a year ago.
Cal Poly earned its fourth straight win and improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in Great West games.
Southern Utah fell to 3-5 and 0-2.
Cal Poly never trailed, but couldnt shake the Thunderbirds until the second half. The two teams combined for over 700 yards of total offense in the first half and the Mustangs held a 35-34 edge at the break. But Cal Poly scored the first 34 points of the second half to pull away, surrendering only a two-yard run to Daryl Brown with 43 seconds to play in the game.
Senior slotback Ryan Mole scored three of Cal Poly's touchdowns, two on runs of 17 and two yards and the other on a 28-yard pass from Dally.
With QB Anu Solomon and WR Nick Wilson healthy, and WR Nate Phillips due to soar, the Wildcats' offense should be among the league's elite.
