Massachusetts 42, Bryant 7

AMHERST, Mass. -- Liam Coen passed for five touchdowns as Massachusetts cruised to a 42-7 victory over Bryant on Saturday.

Coen, who completed 11 of 18 passes and ended with a career-high 389 yards passing, struck for his team's first three scores as the Minutemen (5-3) rolled to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. The team extended its lead to 35-7 at halftime.

Jeremy Horne caught three of Coen's touchdown tosses. The first was for 16 yards to open the game's scoring. He also scored on passes of 21 yards in the second quarter and 54 yards in the third period to wind up with 182 yards in receptions.

Coen's other TD passes were for 80 yards to Matt Silver and for 37 yards to Victor Cruz.

Bryant (4-4) scored its only points with 20 seconds remaining in the first quarter as Lindsey Gamble capped a 75-yard drive with a 6-yard run.

UMass wound up with 593 yards in total offense, compared to 217 for Bryant. Korrey Davis with 54 yards and Chris Zardas, with 53 yards, were the rushing leaders for UMass, which did all its scoring in the first three quarters.

Bryant's Kurt Spear completed 7 of 17 passes for 70 yards. Ross Giffune caught 3 passes for 27 yards and Michael Canfora caught two passes for 25 yards. The team is in the first of four transitional years from Division II to Division I.
