ORONO, Maine -- Lamir Whetstone came up with two of his team's four interceptions Saturday as Maine beat Northeastern 20-0 Saturday.
The Black Bears kept pounding at the Huskies with a run attack that featured quarterback Mike Brusko, who had 13 carries and 93 yards, and fullback Jared Turcotte, who had 18 carries for 68 yards. Maine (5-3, 3-2 Colonial Athletic Association) had 246 rushing yards altogether.
Brusko also completed touchdown passes of 14 and 39 yards to wide receiver Landis Williams in the second and third quarters.
Northeastern (2-6, 1-3 CAA) was unable to put together any consistent offense as Maine controlled the football and the game clock.
Maine's grinding running attack kept Northeastern's offense on the sidelines as the Black Bears maintained possession of the ball 38 minutes, 20 seconds.
For the Huskies, the turnovers didn't help. Anthony Orio threw three interceptions, one of which was returned 79 yards by Mark Masterson for a touchdown, and backup John Sperrazza accounted for the other. The Huskies mustered only 69 yards on the ground.
