NORMAL, Ill. -- Tyler Roehl rushed for 229 yards and three touchdowns to lead North Dakota State to a 25-7 win over Illinois State on Saturday.
North Dakota State (4-4, 2-3 Missouri Valley Football Conference) dominated for the whole of the game, save one touchdown and extra point from Illinois State. Roehl's touchdown runs stretched 46 yards, 36 yards and 3 yards.
Nick Mertens, North Dakota State's quarterback, had 66 yards and was sacked twice.
Illinois State (2-5, 1-3 Missouri Valley Football Conference) trailed 18-0 going into the break but came back to make the sole score during the third period. Quarterback Drew Kiel completed a 4-yard toss to Kelvin Chandler to put the Redbirds on the board. Kiel finished with 85 yards and three sacks.
The Redbirds were able to keep North Dakota State scoreless in third period and until 7:15 in the fourth period.
North Dakota State had 479 offensive yards compared with 147 for Illinois State. North Dakota State also led with 24 first downs over 36:41 possession time. Illinois State had ten first downs for the game.
Illinois State trailed North Dakota State in rushing, going 413 yards compared with 51 for the Redbirds.
