THIBODAUX, La. -- Ross Schexnayder kicked a 38-yard field goal with no time remaining to lift Nicholls State to a 20-17 win against Central Arkansas on Saturday.
Central Arkansas (7-2, 3-1 Southland Conference) capped a 14-point fourth-quarter rally with a 16-yard pass from Nathan Brown to Eric Ware to tie the game at 17-17 with 44 seconds to play. But the Colonels (2-4, 2-2) took advantage of good field position on the next drive to set up the game-winning field goal.
Chris Bunch was 4 of 8 for 102 yards, and also rushed 72 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries for Nicholls State.
Brown was 23 of 42 with 224 yards and two touchdowns for Central Arkansas.
Bunch scored on a 22-yard run and Marlin Meeks ran it in from 1 yard out for the Colonels, who had a 17-0 lead at halftime.
Brown's two touchdown passes evened the game late in the fourth.
