SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant's Jerell Smith rushed for 178 yards and the game's only touchdown as the Bulldogs defeated Wagner 6-2 on Saturday.

Smith scored on a 17-yard run to cap a five-play, 37-yard drive and give the Bulldogs (3-1, 2-0 Northeast Conference) a 6-2 lead with 10:29 remaining in the game. He had 31 carries as Bryant rushed for 220 yards on 49 carries.

Wagner (2-3, 1-1) entered second in the nation in scoring at 41.8 points a game, but was held 105 yards total offense.

The Seahawks took a 2-0 lead with 3:22 left in the third quarter when a snap sailed over the head of Bryant punter Tim Miscovich and went through the end zone for a safety.

Wagner running back Dominique Williams, who had rushed for at least 100 yards in three consecutive games, was held to 49 yards on 14 carries.
