BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Chris Lum threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns as Lehigh defeated Liberty 27-24 on Saturday and recorded its first 3-1 start since 2007.
Trailing 17-13 with 2:17 left in the second quarter, Lum threw a 73-yard pass to Keith Sherman to give Lehigh a 20-17 lead. On the Mountain Hawks' first possession of the second half, Michael Colvin capped off a 12-play, 70-yard drive with a touchdown from 4 yards out to extend the lead to 27-17 halfway through the third quarter.
Liberty (2-2) fought back with a touchdown late in the third quarter but the Lehigh defense stiffened and held the Flames scoreless in the fourth.
Lum, who had his fourth consecutive 300-yard passing game this season, benefited from the sure hands of receiver Ryan Spadola. Spadola finished with 121 yards on seven catches including a 55-yard bomb from Lum to give Lehigh an early 10-3 lead.
