DAVIS, Calif. -- Randy Wright threw for 203 yards and a touchdown, Colton Silveria added two scores on the ground, and UC Davis dealt Cal Poly its first Great West Conference defeat of the season with a 24-17 win Saturday in the Battle for the Golden Horseshoe rivalry game.
Wright hit Tom Hemmingsen for an 8-yard score to get the Aggies (3-6, 1-2) on the board in the first quarter. In the second, Silveria scored from 27 and 2 yards out on consecutive drives. Sean Kelley added a 36-yard field goal in the third quarter as UC Davis built a 24-3 lead.
The Mustangs (5-4, 3-1) made it interesting late, as 1-yard touchdown runs by Andre Broadous and Deonte Williams got Cal Poly within a touchdown. But with under a minute to play, Broadous was sacked by Tommy Grillo and fumbled, and Brock Galvin recovered the loose ball to seal the win.
