HOUSTON -- Riko Smalls threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Texas Southern over Southern University 29-15 on Saturday night.
Smalls led the game in passing, completing 26 of 39 for 365 yards, and rushing with 71 yards.
The Tigers (4-5, 2-5 SWAC) took a 15-0 lead early in the second quarter and never trailed.
The Jaguars (3-6, 3-4) got their first score late in the second quarter when J.P. Douglas connected with Jared Green on a 50-yard pass. Southern came within 22-15 early in the third quarter when Douglas threw to Michael Berry for 24 yards, but they got no closer.
Smalls found Joe Anderson for a touchdown later in the third quarter for the final score.
Douglas completed 16 of 35 for 207 yards but was sacked four times.
