It remains unclear whether Texas will support Big 12 expansion. But one Texas mega-booster apparently is. San Antonio billionaire Red McCombs told ESPN radio in San Antonio that he is in favor of the Big 12 expanding back to 12 teams, provided one of those teams is Houston. "I think we need to add two teams to the Big 12 and should have done it two years ago. The first one should be the University of Houston then it would be your choice of several others." The Big 12 presidents and athletic directors are scheduled to convene in Irving, Texas, next week to discuss, among other topics, expansion.

Will ESPN remain a TV partner for Big Ten in new deal? Northwestern AD Jim Phillips: "We're at a different place and they're at a different place in 2016 than we were in the last round. You'd love to stay married but ... ultimately you have to do what's in the best interests of the 14 institutions."

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany expects to announce a new media rights agreement this summer. Negotiations are ongoing. "I wouldn't talk about walking away from anybody or walking toward anybody," Delany said Wednesday. "We're interested in having great partners that have great platforms that are interested in marketing and promotion, and the market will decide what happens. ESPN's been a great partner. CBS has. Fox has. So it's a new day, and we approach it that way."

Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke proposed this change to recruiting: allow for earlier official visits, and after a player has taken one, he can request to sign a letter of intent after Sept. 1 of his senior year of high school. "I don't need an early signing day, because it just creates an artificial date," Burke said.

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez has "strong feelings" about the number of football-specific staff at some FBS programs. "Sometimes you can get too many guys involved," Alvarez said. "I don't know how you keep track of responsibilities and hold people accountable when you have so many of them around. I'd like to have that staff manageable, whether it's recruiting, whether it's quality control, I don't even know what some of the titles are anymore."
