Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall said he will continue to have his players wear jerseys without numbers and plain helmets when fall practice begins Aug. 5. Mendenhall decided to strip everything away from practice uniforms when he arrived as a way to make his players earn everything they got. "They are working so hard," Mendenhall said. "We're thrilled with how they've embraced that." It's had a benefit to coaches, too. They quickly learned how to identify players on tape from spring practice based on their body movements, allowing them to work more quickly on footwork, technique and stances.

A year ago BC right guard Chris Lindstrom was a 265-pound freshman who missed a block that resulted in a season ending injury for his QB. This year, Lindstrom is up to 305 and one of the reasons Steve Addazio thinks his O-line can make a big stride. "He's going to be a first-rounder in a few years," Addazio said.

Dave Clawson said Cam Serigne was one of the offseason standouts in the weight room. Serigne had largely served as a receiver his first two seasons at Wake Forest, but Clawson thinks he'll take a lot more reps as an in-line, blocking tight end this year.

Despite returning only six starters, Ohio State coach Urban Meyer says he "sees that potential" for a playoff run for the Buckeyes. Says this is the most talented team, top to bottom, that he's had, though there is pressure on coaches to get young roster ready.

Austin Ward ESPN Staff Writer

Urban Meyer lays out the mission this season right off the top: "Have to find a way to replace arguably one of the best groups to ever come through college football." Buckeyes have their work cut out with just six returning starters, but few programs have recruited any better.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz acknowledges how tough it is to finish a regular season undefeated and says it comes down to winning the close games. The Hawkeyes won six games by single digits last season and are the Big Ten West favorite for 2016.

Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst addresses the quarterback situation: "Those two will get a ton of reps in fall camp. Certainly I don't know when, but we'll name a starting quarterback." The two-man race between Bart Houston and Alex Hornibrook could go deep into camp.

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio on defensive lineman Malik McDowell: "Malik is a playmaker. He's big, he's very athletic, physical. With all that being said, he's going to be a true junior. I think this is the year that sort of catapults him."

Dan Murphy ESPN Staff Writer

"He was a giver. There was no take in Mike Sadler." Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio starts his Big Ten media day by talking about his former punter who died in a car crash this weekend.

Michigan standout CB Jourdan Lewis enjoys playing for new defensive coordinator Don Brown, nicknamed "Dr. Blitz." Lewis describes Brown's scheme as, "Pressure, pressure. Dr. Blitz knows what he's doing. That's what he's great at, that's what he hangs his hat on, and that's what we're going to do." Lewis first noticed Brown while watching Boston College's defense stifle Florida State in a game last season.

After Oklahoma landed a commitment today from four-star WR Cedarian Lamb, a rival Big 12 recruiter told me he thinks Sooners' coach Bob Stoops is in line to sign his "best class ever." OU already has the nation's seventh-ranked class with 12 four-star pledges.
