Virginia Tech will introduce Justin Fuente as head coach Monday, a hire that many have applauded because he will bring a more dynamic approach to offense -- something that is desperately needed in Blacksburg. But just as important is his decision to ask Bud Foster to stay on as defensive coordinator. Foster worked side by side with Frank Beamer to build Virginia Tech into a power. He can help Fuente get Virginia Tech back, while also bridging the link between the past and the future.

Kentucky QB Patrick Towles announced today on Instagram that he will transfer. Towles started Kentucky's first 10 games but had just four pass attempts with an interception in Saturday's loss to Louisville. He started all 12 games in 2014. The Wildcats lost six of their final seven contests this fall. Towles wrote on Instagram: "Although I wish my time here in Lexington could have ended another way, I'm eternally grateful."

Stanford coach David Shaw is confident about his team's standing in the national pecking order. "We're 10-2 with a really tough schedule," he said after the Cardinal beat Notre Dame 38-36. "No 1-AA teams on there. We're 8-1 in the deepest conference in America. We have nothing to prove to anybody." If the Cardinal beat USC in the Pac-12 title game and receive help from some chaos elsewhere, they can still make the College Football Playoff. But Saturday's game will most likely be a chance for Stanford to punch its third Rose Bowl ticket in four years.
