Despite a 1-4 start and a 7-11 record since starting with the Longhorns, head coach Charlie Strong has support from school officials and key boosters, sources told ESPN's Joe Schad. One source saying, "Charlie has a lot of breathing room."

Florida State began the season No. 10 in the AP Poll, and this week the Seminoles sit at No. 12 despite being undefeated. Through the five rankings since the preseason, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, LSU, UCLA, Utah, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Florida and one-loss Alabama have jumped FSU. Voters have been much less rigid this year as they too adapt to the playoff system, so it's not much of a surprise FSU, which has not looked like a top-10 team, has been repeatedly jumped.

Baylor has rushed for at least 300 yards in every game this season. Art Briles team is No. 1 among FBS teams with a 7.61 yards-per-carry average and has rushed for 1,507 yards in four games. Baylor rushed for 368 yards in Saturday's 63-35 win over Texas Tech.

Texas CB apologizes for halftime tweet

"I extend my sincerest apology to all of the Longhorn fans and family and everyone at UT," said freshman CB Kris Boyd, who retweeted a Texas A&M fan that suggested he transfer from the Longhorns. "In no way did I intend to be disrespectful or disloyal."

Louisiana-Monroe QB Fitzwater dies

The school confirmed the death of 20-year-old Daniel Fitzwater before its game on Saturday. "The coaching staff and team are deeply saddened by the loss of a great person in Daniel," Warhawks coach Todd Berry said in a statement. The cause of Fitzwater's death is unknown.
