PRACTICE NOTES
Monday (1/21/02):
Woody Dantzler struggled at the running back position. He was unsure of himself. He wasn't quick and didn't show any speed. He didn't look like he wanted to block or even play the position. The effort just wasn't there -- he wasn't hitting the line running hard. Dantzler acted like he was forced into playing the position. He took some turns as a punt returner and had one go off his shoulder pads. If Dantzler doesn't improve at running back, he might be better served spending some time learning the quarterback position in Canada. He does have some good QB intangibles and arm strength.
Tuesday (1/22/02):
Woody Dantzler was getting extra attention today at the running back position. He still does not look comfortable there. Dantzler is not thrilled about playing running back. He's been telling people he prefers to go to Canada and play quarterback.
Wednesday (1/23/02):
Woody Dantzler caught the ball well today. He showed some running skills. Dantzler was a little more comfortable today. He's going to continue to impove because he's starting from ground zero at the running back position. The key for him in the game will be to adjust to running as a back instead of a quarterback.
Thursday (1/24/02):
Woody Dantzler looked more like a running back today. He had his gloves on and his towel. Dantzler caught the ball well too. He showed some run skill inside, but it will be important in the game to show that ability. Dantzler had a bounce to his step today.

SUMMARY
Woody Dantler gets an incomplete grade because he has not played at tailback much. We need to see how he runs, hits the holes, blocks and sees things when lined up from seven yards back instead of behind the center. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the game on Saturday. Will he hit the hole explosively or be tentative? The Senior Bowl is a huge game for him. It could determine if he can be a running back in the NFL or if he will head to Canada to play quarterback. Look for Dantzler to be a free agent.
