Military Bowl Pres. by Northrop Grumman

The Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman is a college football postseason game played at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. each year. Previously known as the EagleBank Bowl and first contested in 2008, the Military Bowl now matches up a bowl-eligible team from the Atlantic Coast Conference with an at-large team. Navy has an agreement to go to the bowl if eligible.

Toledo is the defending Military Bowl champion, having defeated Air Force, 42-41, in 2011.

In an effort to provide the Washington D.C. area a postseason bowl, the NCAA approved a game for the 2008 postseason. Called the EagleBank Bowl (after one of its main sponsors), the inaugural game was played at RFK Stadium in December 2008, when Wake Forest defeated Navy, 29-19.

The Atlantic Coast Conference could not provide a bowl-eligible team for the 2009 edition, so the EagleBank Bowl opted for a UCLA-Temple matchup with the Bruins winning by a 30-21 margin.

With defense contractor Northrop Grumman taking over as sponsor in 2010, the name of the game was officially changed to The Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman. The 2010 game also marked the start of an arrangement for the game to annually feature a bowl-eligible team from the ACC. Maryland defeated East Carolina in Ralph Friedgen's last game as the Terps head coach.

In 2011, the bowl had an agreement with Navy to hold a spot if the Midshipmen were bowl eligible. However, Navy failed to reach the postseason, and Air Force slid in to represent the service academies. Toledo took the spot the ACC was unable to fill, and ended up winning the game, 42-41, when Air Force was unable to convert a two-point conversion following a touchdown with 52 seconds left.

Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium is a multi-sport stadium in Washington D.C., and the current home of Major League Soccer's D.C. United. It also has hosted a college bowl game since 2008, when the inaugural EagleBank (now Military) Bowl was played there.

RFK Stadium previously has hosted the Washington Redskins, the Washington Nationals and the former Washington Senators, as well as international soccer games in the 1994 FIFA World Cup, the 1996 Summer Olympics and the 2003 Women's World Cup. It also occasionally holds concerts, from the Beatles in 1996 to a Sept. 11 memorial concert hosted by Michael Jackson in 2001.

The stadium was opened in 1961 as the first major stadium designed for both football and baseball. The stadium was the new home for the Washington Redskins as well as baseball's Senators. The Senators lasted less than 10 years in the stadium before moving to Minnesota and becoming the Twins, but the Redskins were housed at RFK for 36 years, until the 1997 season. The Washington Nationals, upon their relocation and renaming in 2005, moved into RFK before getting their own, new stadium in 2008.
