New Era Pinstripe Bowl

The New Era Pinstripe Bowl is a college football bowl game that was held for the first time in 2010. It is held in the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y. The bowl pits the fourth-place team from the Big East against the seventh selection from the Big 12. It is one of three bowl games currently played in a "baseball-only" facility.

In 2011, Rutgers won the second edition of the Pinstripe Bowl, defeating Iowa State, 20-6.

The NCAA certified a new bowl to be played in Yankee Stadium in April 2010. It would become the first bowl played in New York City since 1962, though the original Yankee Stadium did have a long history with football in its stadium.

Though originally used with the working title of the Yankee Bowl, the organizers decided on the Pinstripe Bowl in March 2010. There were many who proposed a return of the Gotham Bowl name, which had been used the last time New York hosted a bowl in 1962. New Era signed on as the title sponsor around the same time. The New York Yankees also are a sponsor of the bowl, becoming the first MLB team to sponsor a college bowl.

The inaugural game took place on Dec. 30, 2010, with Syracuse -- coached by Bronx-native Doug Marrone -- defeating Kansas State, 36-34. The Wildcats trailed by eight points in the final minutes, before scoring a touchdown with just over a minute left. However, they were flagged for excessive celebration on the play, pushing their two-point conversion attempt back to the 18-yard-line. The attempt failed, and Syracuse gained possession on the ensuing onside kick, ending the game.

The following season, Rutgers defeated Iowa State, 27-13, as Big East teams improved to 2-0 in the game.
