Cyclones lose second straight in Big 12

RECAP | BOX SCORE

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Jennifer Jackson had a score to settle against Iowa State. On Saturday, she got her chance.

Jackson scored 17 points as Kansas beat No. 6 Iowa State 69-61 and snapped a three-game losing streak.

"Nobody wanted to beat Iowa State as badly as Jennifer Jackson," Kansas coach Marian Washington said. "The game was very important to her, and I think she did a really good job of leading this club."

Jackson, a senior point guard, said her dislike for Iowa State dated to her sophomore season, when the Cyclones beat the Jayhawks at home to spoil what would have been Washington's 500th career victory.

Iowa State (20-4, 10-3 Big 12) also handled the Jayhawks easily last month, 67-48.

On Saturday, the Jayhawks capitalized on six steals, Jackson scored 13 points and K.C. Hilgenkamp added three 3-pointers as Kansas (10-14, 4-9) built a 35-29 halftime lead.

Kansas extended its advantage to nine points in the second half before Lindsey Wilson scored seven straight points for Iowa State. Nikki White countered with two baskets as Kansas took control.

Brooke Reves, scoreless in the first half, was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line down the stretch and finished with 15 points for the Jayhawks.

"She played with a lot of composure," Washington said. "She showed us what Brooke Reves is made of by coming off the bench at the end of the game and hitting some important free throws."

Angie Welle led the Cyclones with 20 points and nine rebounds. Megan Taylor and Wilson each scored 13 points.
