Barnes helps 'Nova advance RECAP | BOX SCORE

STORRS, Conn. (Ticker) Brandi Barnes scored 12 of her
14 points in the first half when No. 23 Villanova built a
21-point lead en route to a 63-41 victory over St. John's in a
Big East tournament game.
Villanova (21-7), the fifth seed in the tournament, will meet
Virginia Tech, the fourth seed, in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
The Wildcats shot 58 percent from the field (14-of-24) in the
first half compared to 22 percent (5-of-23) for St. John's.
After Villanova opened a 39-18 halftime lead, Barnes sat for
most of the second half. She hit 7-of-10 shots, grabbed six
rebounds and blocked two shots in 23 minutes.
Trish Juhline had 12 points and Courtney Mix added 10 off the
bench for the Wildcats.
Latasha Thompson led St. John's (8-20) with 12 points. Rasheedah
Brown, Tynisha Miles and Katrina Johns combined to hit just
4-of-24 shots for the Red Storm.
