Hokies win fourth straight, move on to semis

STORRS, Conn. (Ticker) – Chrystal Starling scored 21 points off the bench as Virginia Tech advanced to the semifinals of the Big East Conference tournament with a 73-67 victory over No. 23 Villanova.

Tere Williams added 20 points for Virginia Tech (21-7), the fourth seed in the tournament. The Hokies picked up its fourth straight win and will face either second-ranked Notre Dame or Georgetown on Monday in the semifinals.

Courtney Mix had 17 points off the bench for Villanova (21-8), which had its winning streak snapped at three games.

Although the Wildcats were ranked No. 23 in the country, they were seeded fifth in the tournament.

Amy Wetzel and Ieva Kublina chipped in 10 points apiece for the Hokies, who shot 53 percent from the field (25-of-47) and sank 19-of-21 free throws.

The Wildcats shot just 45.5 percent (25-of-55) and attempted only nine free throws, sinking eight.
