Penn's 21-game win streak snapped in a big way

RECAP | BOX SCORE

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) – Plenette Pierson scored 19 points, and two reserve freshmen added 14 each as Texas Tech beat Pennsylvania 100-57 Friday night in the first round of the Mideast Regional.

Bob Knight, in town for meetings with Tech officials about its men's coaching vacancy, watched from the athletic director's box.

The Lady Raiders held all Penn scorers but two below six points to spoil the Quakers' first NCAA Tournament appearance and snap their NCAA-best 21-game winning streak.

Texas Tech (23-6) scored 100 points for the first time this year and earned its seventh straight first-round win. The Lady Raiders will play Virginia Tech, which beat Denver 77-57, in the second round Sunday.

Freshmen reserves Natalie Ritchie and Jolee Ayers each had 14 points for the Raiders.

Tech held Penn (22-5) to 37.5 percent shooting from the field and limited Diana Caramanico _ one of the nation's top shooters – to 15 points, down from her 21.5 average.

Jennifer Jones led the Ivy League champions with 19 points.
