NORMAN, Okla. (AP) – Nicole Powell scored 16 of her 19 points in the first half as Stanford took control on its way to a 76-51 victory over George Washington in the first round of the NCAA West Regional Saturday night.

Stanford (19-10), the No. 10 seed, will play seventh-ranked and second-seeded Oklahoma in the second round Monday night. Oklahoma beat Oral Roberts 70-64 in the early game.

George Washington, which had won eight straight NCAA first-round games, winds up 22-10.

The Colonials were no match for the much taller Stanford team. The Cardinal did make seven 3-pointers, but also scored almost at will inside.

"The way they tried to trap us, we turned it over early but once we got into the groove of executing offensively, we got very high-percentage shots and knocked them down," coach Tara VanDerveer said.

"We had to play well because G.W. has a lot of weapons."

The Colonials, however, shot just 26.5 percent and were 3-for-23 from 3-point range. Stanford was 56 percent from beyond the arc.

"I really thought this was a great matchup coming in," coach Joe McKeown said. "I never expected the game to get away from us like it did, but you certainly have to give Stanford a lot of credit."

Enghusen, who finished with 14, scored four points in a 6-0 run that gave Stanford a 23-19 lead. The Colonials pulled within 25-23 with just under four minutes left before Stanford outscored them 13-2. Powell, Lauren St. Clair and Lindsey Yamasaki all had 3-pointers during the run.

Stanford started the second half by outscoring the Colonials 12-4. The margin was 15 with 12 1/2 minutes remaining before a 16-4 run made the final seven minutes incidental.

"We're a much better team than we played tonight," McKeown said. "That's life in the NCAA Tournament."

Corrin Reid scored 11, and Erica Lawrence and Kristeena Alexander 10 each for George Washington.

The game with Oklahoma will be a rematch from earlier in the season, when the Sooners won 102-98 in overtime in Norman.
