It was the first NCAA Tournament win in 11 years for the Wolverines.

Schuye LaRue hit a 3-pointer for Virginia with 5.9 seconds left in regulation to force the tie, but the Wolverines dominated in overtime. Michigan scored the first seven points, then hit six of nine free throws.

The victory marked the eighth time this season in 16 tries that the eighth-seeded Wolverines (19-11), who shot 68 percent in the second half, have trailed at halftime and come back to win.

The Cavaliers (18-14) opened a 43-26 lead when Telisha Quarles hit a 3-pointer with 16:52 left. The Wolverines responded with a 29-8 run. Ingram started the run with a basket inside with 10:32 left, then after a basket by Jennifer Smith, Ingram hit a pair of 3-pointers for Michigan, which had missed its first six 3-point attempts.

After another basket by Ingram and two more by Smith, Ingram hit a pair of 3-pointers to cut the lead to 51-48. Michigan finally took the lead when Raina Goodlow hit a 3-pointer with 5:54 left to make it 53-51 and never trailed again.

Smith scored 20 points for the Wolverines and LeeAnn Bies added 15. LaRue led the Cavaliers with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Quarles scored 19 and Marcie Dickson had 14.
