Slump? Shooting touch returns to UConn's Doty
STORRS, Conn. -- It's not just any markswoman who can put a shooting slump behind her by clanging a ball off the rim. But when Caroline Doty's first 3-point attempt in Tuesday's game against DePaul bounced high off the rim, her recent slump had only as much life left as the time it took the ball to bounce high and drop gently through the net.
The rule of thumb for settling disputes in pickup games when I was growing up involved the challenged party shooting a 3-pointer from the top of the key. The logic, which would make so much of life less stressful if applied more broadly, was that the ball never lied.
