Road won't be easy for Doty, Huskies

January, 19, 2009

When I suffered a torn ACL in my left knee a few years ago, a friend joked that I was taking my love of women's basketball a little too far. It was the kind of gallows humor you need to hear at a time like that, and hopefully someone close to Caroline Doty is making her chuckle today, perhaps touting the chance to temporarily escape Geno Auriemma's line of fire at practice.

Because with confirmation Sunday from Connecticut that Doty tore the ACL in her left knee late during Saturday's game against Syracuse, the same ACL she tore in high school, there isn't likely much to smile about for either the freshman or her teammates who are already in Chapel Hill for Monday's showdown (ESPN2, 7 p.m. ET) against the Tar Heels.
