Stanford Cardinal
Road to the Final Four.............................................................................................
Overview The Cardinal have overcome injuries and lineup changes to get into the tournament for the 14th straight year. This time, they earned the automatic berth. Washington, Arizona State and Stanford all tied for the Pac-10 title with 12-6 records, but Stanford earned the automatic bid by virtue of a tiebreaker. Coach Tara VanDerveer secured her 500th win as a coach this season thanks to a potent offense led by Nicole Powell. Powell nearly averaged a double-double, which is impressive considering Powell -- a natural forward -- was playing point guard much of the season. The Cardinal like to shoot the 3-pointers with wings Lindsey Yamasaki and Lauren St. Clair. Stanford also set a new school record for blocked shots this season with five per game.Player to WatchNicole Powell showed this season she is one of the most versatile players in the Pac-10. The freshman, who played center in high school, played point guard, averaging 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists this season. She even notched a triple-double in late February with a 10-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist performance. Roster NO.
