Replaces Hatchell, who left for Sam Houston State

HOUSTON (AP) -- Todd Steelman has been named an assistant women's
basketball coach at Rice, a school official said Tuesday.

Steelman coached the Cresset Christian Academy High School girls
basketball team in Durham, N.C., for the past seven seasons. For
the past four years, he was also the school's athletic director.

Head coach Cristy McKinney said she is excited to add Steelman
to her staff.

"He's a very good basketball person,'' McKinney said. ``He's
very enthusiastic, he's great with people and he's very excited
about being at Rice."

He replaces James "Wooly" Hatchell, who was recently named
head women's basketball coach at Sam Houston State.
