STORRS, Conn. -- Junior college standout Rashidat Sadiq of Nigeria has signed a letter of intent to attend Connecticut and play for the three-time defending national champion Huskies beginning this fall, UConn coach Geno Auriemma announced Thursday.
Sadiq, a 6-foot-2 swing forward from Epe Lagos, Nigeria, who played at Central Arizona College, is the fourth member of the Huskies' 2004 signing class.
Sadiq plans to return home this summer to compete with the Nigerian national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
A two-time first-team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America choice, Sadiq will arrive at UConn with two years of eligibility remaining. She ranked second among NJCAA national scoring leaders at 24.9 points per game and 11th in rebounding at 10.9 rpg. Central Arizona was 33-3 finished third in the NJCAA Tournament during the 2003-04 campaign.
Sadiq was a back-to-back choice as the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year in each of the last two seasons.
She wrapped up her Central Arizona career as the program's leading scorer with 1,629 points, surpassing the previous mark established by former Phoenix Mercury and University of Florida standout Bridgett Pettis.
