Former LSU guard Hayes dies at age 40

ALEXANDRIA, La. -- Jeanette Burns Hayes, a former guard for
the LSU women's basketball team, died Sunday morning at the age of

Hayes played at LSU for Hall of Fame coach Sue Gunter from 1984
to 1988. She scored 1,070 points with 430 assists in 117 career
games. Hayes ranked ninth on LSU's career scoring list when she
graduated in 1988 and now is 22nd on the list. Her assist total was
the LSU record when her career ended and she is fourth now.

Hayes, who was employed at Central State Hospital, is survived
by her husband Benny Hayes, a 16-year-old daughter Courtney and
nine-year-old twins Saline and Katina.

Arrangements were being made for services to be held at
Progressive Funeral Home in Alexandria.
