BOZEMAN (AP) -- Becky O'Neil had 12 points, including a put-back
with 15 seconds left, to lift Weber State to a 56-55 win over
Montana State on Thursday.
Montana State (9-17, 3-10 Big Sky) took a 31-22 lead on a basket
by Kati Burrows with 19:17 remaining.
Weber State (20-6, 11-2) responded with a 15-6 run to tie the
score at 37 on a field goal by Brooke Hansen with 12:59 remaining.
The score was tied five times over the next 11:29 and MSU's Brandie
Buckless hit two free throws to tie the score at 52.
O'Neil made a basket with 1:18 remaining before Buckless hit a
3-pointer to put MSU up 55-54 with 49 seconds remaining.
Montana State coach Greg Kudrna was called for a technical with
9:42 remaining. Burrows had made a basket and a Weber State player
was called for a foul when the other official overruled the call,
and said it was a jump ball. Weber State made 1-of-2 of the
technical free throws.
Julie Gjertsen added 11 points and six rebounds for Weber State.
Burrows led Montana State with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while
Alyssa Nelson had 10 points and six assists.
Montana State's Big Sky Conference playoff hopes are still alive
because Portland State beat Sacramento State 59-57 on Thursday. A
Bobcat victory over Idaho State on Saturday, coupled with an
Eastern Washington victory over Sacramento State, would give MSU
the final spot in the six-team league tournament.
