Sherwood, Williams come up big in victory

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Liz Sherwood and Caroline Williams recorded double-doubles in helping Vanderbilt (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today; No. 12 AP) remain undefeated with an 82-63 victory over Clemson on Sunday.

Sherwood came off the bench to overpower the Tigers inside with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

Williams added 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for the Commodores (8-0). Senior forward Carla Thomas scored 11 of Vanderbilt's first 13 points and finished with 19.

D'Lesha Lloyd led Clemson (3-5) with 16 points.

Vanderbilt's trapping defense keyed a decisive 17-2 run in the first half. Clemson committed 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes and made only five of its first 16 shots.

The early surge gave the Commodores a 43-27 halftime lead.

Vanderbilt's lead never dropped under 17 points in the second half and three times grew to as many as 24 points.
