George Washington wins fifth consecutive game

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Reserve Jazmine Adair had 11 points and 10 rebounds, her first double-double this season, and George Washington (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today; No. 12 AP) beat Richmond 57-50 in both teams' Atlantic 10 opener.

Playing for the first time since Dec. 30, the Colonials (12-2, 1-0) overcame a sluggish start to win their fifth straight and beat Richmond (6-10, 0-1) for the 13th time in 14 games.

Adair, who played extensively because her twin, Jessica, was in foul trouble, helped the Colonials control the paint and win the rebounding battle 39-27. Kenan Cole and Whitney Allen led George Washington with 14 points apiece.

Christina Campion scored a career-high 22 points for Richmond.

The Colonials took control in the game's final 12 minutes. With George Washington leading 36-30, Kim Beck sank a 3-pointer to start a 10-3 run.

The Colonials began to pull away by closing the first half on a 10-2 run to take a 27-19 lead.
