Taking the plunge

Feb. 27, 2003

I know that it has been awhile since my last entry, but I hope that I can make it up to you with this. There has been a series of interesting events that have happened to me recently and I would just like to share a couple of them with you.

The other day in the Syracuse game, I was checking into the game when my shoe got stuck between the scorer's table and the floor. I was tugging and tugging away at my shoe but I just could not get away. I had to take my shoe off and pull at it and I still could not get it. It took Julie McBride from Syracuse to come over and help me get it out, and even then it took a lot of effort from the both of us. It was embarrassing mainly because I was on the jumbotron the whole time tugging away at my shoe.

Speaking of embarrassing situations ... another funny event took place in my apartment the other night. I went to the bathroom, and the toilet overflowed (before you get any wild ideas, it was a No. 1 and not a No. 2). I asked Jess and Willnet to plunge the toilet for me because I had never done it before. Of course they said no and told me to get a couple of good plunges in and then flush it. So that's what I did. But the water started to rise to the brim of the lid. I just let the water go down on its own, and then begged Willnet to plunge it because maybe I wasn't doing it hard enough. She came and helped me. She was really plunging it hard but the toilet would still not flush, so I lifted the lid off the back of the toilet and pulled the stopper, which just made it worse and the water rose again.

Well, Willnett and I gave up on plunging the toilet and were headed back to the living room to finish watching a movie. I suddenly realized that the light was on and as I turned around to turn it off, the water was creeping over the seat and onto the floor. I jumped up on the counter and started screaming for Willnett. She came running back in a panic because she thought I had hurt myself. But when she came back and saw me on the counter and the water overflowing, she started laughing hysterically. After I got on a pair of sandals, I finally realized the problem -- the stopper was not completely in the hole and the septic tank was still running. It was definitely a funny memory for my first experience of plunging the toilet.

Well, besides my antics off the court, I know that everyone wants to know a little something about the streak. I really don't know what to tell you, except when I think of the streak, I think of someone running down the street naked and painted in blue. After breaking the 55-game winning streak, which was really exciting to us, we really haven't been concerned about it. We just have been taking it one game at a time and playing hard in each of those games. I think that the winning streak we're on is certainly something to be proud of, but it still doesn't mean anything if we don't finish the job.
