(Editor's note: Tennessee senior Kara Lawson will share a diary with ESPN.com for the remainder of the season.) March 3, 2003
Senior Night (Feb. 27 against Vanderbilt) was awesome. At first I did not think that it was going to be good at all because my family was scheduled to fly in at around noon, but their flight out of Washington D.C. was cancelled and they were frantically trying to reschedule in order to make the game in time. They ended up getting rerouted though Atlanta, and my roommate picked them up at the airport and rushed them to the game. They made it by halftime. We usually have the Senior Night festivities before the game, but because of the delay we switched them to after the game. We beat Vandy by 20 (91-71), and both Gwen and I had solid games. My favorite part of the night was when Gwen and I had the opportunity to speak to the fans and tell them how much our four years had meant. Now we're preparing for the SEC tournament this week in Little Rock, Ark. It is so hard to win because you have to defeat NCAA Tournament-caliber teams three consecutive days in order to win the whole thing. We won the tournament title my freshman year but have not been able to get back to the finals since then. Going undefeated through the regular season makes it tougher to win the tournament because everyone is gunning for you. I can't wait for the challenges, though. The stars of the week were definitely Gwen Jackson and Shyra Ely. Shyra had 17 rebounds against Kentucky on Sunday. I told you she was big time! I'll catch up with you next week. Hopefully we will be SEC tournament champs! For more on Lawson and Tennessee, visit the Lady Vols' official athletic site. |
