Jets GM Mike Maccagnan on the QB situation: They still want to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick (where have we heard that before?), they're "excited" to see Geno Smith, they like Bryce Petty "quite a bit" and, "in a perfect world," they won't have to rush Christian Hackenberg into the lineup as a rookie. Jets GM Mike Maccagnan all but confirmed he tried to trade up for Ole Miss T Laremy Tunsil, whose fall to Miami became the story of the draft. He said Tunsil was a player "we liked quite a bit." The Jets apparently weren't bothered by the video. (Via ESPN NY 98.7 FM)

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan, explaining the decision not to exercise Dee Milliner's fifth-year option, said it was based primarily on his injury history. If Milliner plays well, they can try to negotiate a contract after the season, he said. (Via ESPN NY 98.7 FM)

Diary of Myles Thomas: 'Urban and Eddie'

On the Latvia decision, Kristaps Porzingis clearly prioritized his long-term development this summer over playing for his country. This had to be a tough call for the 20 year old. Surely it's one the Knicks are happy with. Porzingis will spend his summer in the United States training. He plans to add 12-13 pounds to his frame and to work on his post game, among other facets.

Herm: Jets a playoff team with Fitzpatrick (0:34)

The Jets' decision not to exercise Dee Milliner's fifth-year option was a no-brainer. Even though his 2017 salary ($11.9M) wouldn't have become fully guaranteed until next March, the injury-plagued cornerback hasn't done anything to justify a salary that big. He'll be a free agent after the season.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

As expected, the Jets exercised the fifth-year option for DE Sheldon Richardson ($8M). They won't pick up Dee Milliner's option.
