Diary of Myles Thomas: 'Urban and Eddie'

In today's installment of our 1927 Yankees diary, Myles Thomas describes the unique relationship between a pitcher with a terminal heart condition and a team mascot whose journey to the majors can only be described as Dickensian.

On the Latvia decision, Kristaps Porzingis clearly prioritized his long-term development this summer over playing for his country. This had to be a tough call for the 20 year old. Surely it's one the Knicks are happy with. Porzingis will spend his summer in the United States training. He plans to add 12-13 pounds to his frame and to work on his post game, among other facets.

Herm: Jets a playoff team with Fitzpatrick (0:34)

The Jets' decision not to exercise Dee Milliner's fifth-year option was a no-brainer. Even though his 2017 salary ($11.9M) wouldn't have become fully guaranteed until next March, the injury-plagued cornerback hasn't done anything to justify a salary that big. He'll be a free agent after the season.

As expected, the Jets exercised the fifth-year option for DE Sheldon Richardson ($8M). They won't pick up Dee Milliner's option.

According to reports out of Latvia, Kristaps Porzingis announced today that he will not participate in Olympic qualifying this summer with Latvia. The Knicks had hoped that Porzingis would stay in the United States this summer to work with - and develop under - their staff. The decision to sit out of the qualifying likely wasn't an easy one for Porzingis. He spoke often about how important it was to represent his country.

Hedman's heady play bolsters Bolts

Lightning blueliner Victor Hedman is controlling play at both ends of the ice while keeping Islanders star John Tavares in check -- and again proving to be a vital part of Tampa Bay's success.

One GM thinks Solomon Hill's value is 7-9 M per year this summer with increased cap. The small forward certainly increased the market for his services during the Pacers' first-round loss to Toronto. Hill averaged 7.7 points, 4 rebounds in the series & shot 58% from 3. He also had a net rating (points scored per 100 possessions-points allowed per 100 possessions while on the floor) of +8.7.
