Yates: Jets must focus on future at QB

Ryan Fitzpatrick might very well be Gang Green's starter this year, but even if he re-signs, Field Yates thinks securing a long-term solution should be priority No. 1 for the Jets. Upcoming decisions (Insider)

Mets could be active on trade market

New York likely has its eyes set on a return to the World Series, meaning the team could look to make some upgrades at this summer's trade deadline. Jim Bowden sees the Mets as a good match for Angels closer Huston Street, A's C Stephen Vogt or Brewers 1B Chris Carter. Top trade candidates, best fits (Insider)

Struggling reliever Chasen Shreve is going on the DL with a shoulder issue. He is being checked by doctors to figure out the severity.

Does Matt Harvey have shoulder weakness or fatigue? Why do I ask? Innings 1-3 his ERA is 3.03; innings 4-6 his ERA is 9.89. Pitches 1-25 opponents hit .212 against him and pitches 51-75 they bat .424 against him. In addition, velocity of all pitches decline accordingly. Pitch selection 2nd and 3rd time around the lineup could be a factor but not enough to explain the vast differential. These facts should not be ignored by the Mets in diagnosing his struggles.

As expected, Mark Teixeira is out of the lineup with neck spasms. Teixeira did not start Wednesday night and has received a cortisone shot to try to deal with the issue. Backup catcher Austin Romine is playing first with lefty J.A. Happ on the mound for the Blue Jays.

Alex Rodriguez is back in the lineup on Thursday afternoon. A-Rod has been on the DL since May 4th with a strained hamstring. The Yankees have gone 14-7 without Rodriguez. They were 8-16 with him to begin the season. A-Rod is batting fifth in the order against lefty J.A. Happ.

It's funny. Every time I mention Jake Arrieta's unbeaten streak, Mets fans remind me they beat him in Oct. Which is true. Irony alert: Jeurys Familia just broke the Mets record for most consecutive saves (32). Not counting the 3 he blew in the World Series, of course. These "active" streaks are getting confusing!
