Here's why Derrick Rose changed his number from 1 to 25, the number he wore as a high school star in Chicago: "I'm playing in New York but I'm bringing something from Chicago with me out here. That's one of the reasons I chose No. 25." Rose wore No. 25 as a high school player at Chicago powerhouse Simeon Career Academy. The Mets and other teams have been allowed to speak to Jose Reyes' agents since he landed on release waivers on Thursday. Joe Girardi said " the plan" is for Mark Teixeira to rejoin the Yankees for Saturday's game, although there is a caveat: "Our plan is to give him today (off) to make sure that he's OK and then get him back in there tomorrow. " Teixeira, on the DL since June 4 with a cartilage tear in his right knee, just finished a 3-game rehab assignment for AAA Scranton, where he went 1-for-9 with a walk. Teixeira is hitting just .180 with 3 HRs and 12 RBI. "I know he's off to a slow start but I really don't think that's going to continue," Girardi said. "We expect him to be Mark."
