The Knicks' deal with Joakim Noah has an average value of $18 million but likely starts below that. The specific structure of the contract is unclear at this point but it likely leaves New York with at least $12 million in available cap space. The club told people earlier Friday that they anticipate having approximately $11 million available for the shooting guard position, according to sources. The Knicks have a $2.7 million qualifying offer committed to Langston Galloway and a cap hold of a little over $2 million for Lance Thomas. They also have a cap hold for Derrick Williams, but it would be a surprise if Williams wasn't renounced. Courtney Lee and Eric Gordon remain top priorities for the club at the shooting guard position.

With the Knicks agreeing to a 4-year, $72 million deal with Joakim Noah, per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, the club now turns its attention to shooting guard. It's main targets are Eric Gordon and Courtney Lee, per sources. Depending on the value of the first year of the deal, the club could have around $15 million in available cap space. The entire $15 million can't go to shooting guard, obviously. The club has only six players under contract & has many holes to fill.

Brooklyn targets Kent Bazemore (Hawks) and Jared Dudley (Suns) both signed elsewhere. The Nets still have needs at the wing, power forward and in the veteran leadership department. And that's just some of them.

Nothing is done yet but some members of the Knicks' organization told people earlier in the day that they expect to have at least $11 million available if and when the deal for Joakim Noah is finalized. Members of the Knicks' organization, including Phil Jackson and Steve Mills, are meeting with Joakim Noah in an Orlando-area hotel at the moment. Most of the remaining cap space is expected to be used on a shooting guard. The Knicks' available space can increase, of course, if they get rid of some players on the roster.

Justin Hamilton, a journeyman center who was playing in Spain, will receive a two-year, $6 million contract from Brooklyn, his agent said. The Nets earlier agreed with PG Jeremy Lin on a three-year, $36 million deal.

From Jay Paris on-site in San Diego for ESPN.com: Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran will be idle this weekend in San Diego. "He's improving," manager Joe Girardi said. "He's just not where he needs to be.'' Beltran's sore right hamstring had him out Friday against the San Diego Padres. He could be down the next two games, too. "I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play,'' Girardi said. Beltran walked as a pinch-hitter in Thursday's win over the Rangers. He didn't play Wednesday, one day after getting hurt. "As I've said the last few days this was what worried me that he would have to play the field,'' Girardi said. "If he was DHing, it might be a little bit quicker. But we have to make sure he is OK.''
